{This post was written a couple of weeks ago, but I wanted to wait until we had our 6 month dr. appt. so I could get his weight... My little baby is already 6 1/2 months now. Time, please slow down}
Dear Colson,
Dear Colson,
I can't believe how fast the last 6 months have gone. You have been the biggest & scariest blessing in my life. I have never had more to worry about then I do now... but I would not have it any other way! I love watching you discover and learn new things. You recently discovered the dog and you love to pull her hair... and she just lets you. You also mastered your m's, which comes out as "mama" and even though you have no idea what you're saying, it breaks my heart when you cry and all that comes out is a loud, clear "mama". I never thought I'd be so excited about you learning to sit up, army crawl or try food for the first time. The little things you do make my day! You are the happiest boy and your smile is the best thing I've ever seen!
I tell you often how giving your mom kisses is cool & you can only get married if you live next door to me and come over for dinner every day. Your dad says I'm trying to brainwash you, and maybe I am, but let me tell you this... no one loves you as much as I do! You were an answer to my prayers & a miracle at that. God exceeded our expectations when He gave us you.
You made me a mom, which is my favorite thing to be. You have also turned your dad into an even more caring & loving man because our hearts grew when we met you. I can't imagine my heart getting anymore full, but it does every day.
Now please stop growing because I need you to be my baby forever. Just kidding, you can grow... as long as you always realize that cool boys snuggle with their moms.
Love, Mom
Updates:
Food: C nurses about 100 times a day... or so it feels! It is getting better though and I think he's at about 6-8 times per day. I can tell that he is eating less at each feeding, which is probably why he eats so often... he is just a grazer. I am assuming if I pumped & gave him a bottle it would be about 4-5 oz each feeding. He tried oatmeal cereal for the first time around 5 1/2 months and had an allergic reaction. He got a rash all over his face & we had to give him benadryl. After that we held off on food until 6 months and then gave him some pureed butternut squash. It is still sporadic to when he eats, but so far he's had squash, pears, sweet potatoes and prunes. He loves sweet potatoes & prunes are a close second! According to his 6 month checkup, he was exactly 17 lbs, which is crazy since he was 15 lbs at his appt 10 weeks before! He feels way heavier!
Sleep: He is still sleeping in our room because until recently he was still nursing at night. However, he recently started sleeping from about 7:30-6:30 without waking! He is not a great napper, which is fine with me as long as he's sleeping through the night! He also started sleeping on his tummy recently, despite me putting him to sleep on his back. I am not a fan of this, but he refuses to sleep on his back. Thank God for a video monitor!
Fun: He is sitting up for long periods of time now, which is a whole new ballgame in the fun department! He loves to play with any musical toys and literally everything goes in his mouth! His favorite time of the day continues to be bath time with daddy. He is still using the baby tub but we have a blow up one that we are going to transition to soon. He fills it with water and it is literally empty within minutes... Colson LOVES kicking & splashing. He also loves his jumperoo & jumps like a mad man!!
Personality: His personality is changing every day and he's full of laughs & giggles! He especially loves getting kissed (anywhere but the face these days!) and seeing himself in the mirror. He's been a bit more reserved with strangers, but at his dr's appt the nurses & receptionsists passed him around and he was perfectly content flirting with all of them.
Development: He is sitting up for over 10-20 minutes at a time without assistance, although I usually sit behind him or have a pillow there. He is rolling from back to front easily, but isn't a fan of rolling from his front to his back (but he can do it!). He is picking things up easily, moving them from one hand to the other and then straight into his mouth! He has NO TEETH. I can't believe it. I don't even see any white caps or swelling. He also recently found a new voice, no longer squealing, but a loud caveman yell, which is done mostly at inappropriate times. He can also say his "m's" and "spits" a lot.. is there a sound for spitting? ha!
Sickness: He has been super healthy & really had no sickness at all. I even got the flu and was sick for over a week and he was just fine. He had shorter more frequent nursing sessions & I gave him elderberry, which I think helped a lot.
Well, if you made it this far you are crazy! Just kidding... but really, sorry about the long post! I am mostly doing this for myself because I can't believe how fast time is flying by and how big my little man is getting!

he is just so adorable!! what a sweet little face. this is such a fun phase - as much as I loved having a newborn, it seems like 6-9 months is a whirlwind of new developments - some are fun and some are so scary! but it's awesome to see the little people they're becoming.
ReplyDeleteHe is so cute!! Sounds a lot like my little man who is now 9 1/2 months old and weighs 22 lbs! They grow way too fast. Keep cuddlin' and kissin' :)
