It's almost Father's Day & even though our little man is still inside my belly cookin, I think the daddy-to-be deserves a little gift, too! This could be customized for any daddy-to-be and would be fun to bring to a baby shower... because the daddy usually gets ignored while mom has all of the fun!
I put together this little kit for Trav full of some fun things for him & some things that will be useful when baby boy arrives.
Here are all the goods stuffed in a basket from the Target $ wall :) I downloaded these adorable & free printable labels that I found on pinterest {click here for link}. I cut them out with a scalloped punch & then put blue paper on the backside. I wrote a little note on it explaining each gift.
Here's what I put in the basket {See Notes Below}:
1. Hershey's Hugs & Kisses
2. Trail Mix
3. A Baby Book
4. Handmade Bib {daddy is obsessed w/batman stuff for his little boy}

I made the black bib out of one of Trav's t-shirts. It was super easy! I just traced another bib we have and sewed the two pieces together. I used some scraps of heat transfer material & my silhouette to cut out the saying & cut the batman logo by hand.
To make the burp rag, I used a cloth diaper & felt. I printed out a batman logo I found on google & traced it onto the felt. I used my sewing machine to sew the felt on.
Trav is obsessed with batman recently... which is so strange to me because he's not a big movie buff! I think that having a baby boy on the way is making his inner-boy come back out & his childhood favorites reappear... Plus the new batman comes out a couple days after baby's due date. He even bought him a batman onesie the day we found out we were having a boy!
The venti mug is from starbucks & we have grown to love this via stuff! It's so nice to have when you don't want to make a whole pot of coffee. And yes, I am going to be a "bad" mom and let my baby use a paci. :-)
The notes read:
"Because after a long night up with baby, you just might need a venti!"
"Because after a long night up with baby, you just might need a venti!"
and on the coffee it says
"and you might need to make it fast!"
"and you might need to make it fast!"
"For all of the icky things that will come out of him while you two are watching batman!"
These notes read:
"For the nights when daddy puts baby to bed" {book}
"Use these until you are quick at changing his diaper... or risk getting wet!" {peepee teepee's}
"For the nights when daddy puts baby to bed" {book}
"Use these until you are quick at changing his diaper... or risk getting wet!" {peepee teepee's}
"Because sometimes he might be fussy... these will help!" {paci's}
I made the peepee teepee's off of this tutorial at make-it love-it. I saw them at babies 'r us but didn't buy them because they were like $12!!! They are not super practical & more of a novelty item... but for a guy who is slow at changing diapers they may come in handy! Plus, I made them out of all scraps & they took about 10 minutes each so I definitely think it's worth it! I am going to make a bunch for future daddy-gifts!
These notes read:
"For the days mama doesn't have time to make you breakfast" {granola bars}
"To remind you that baby boy needs lots of hugs & kisses" {hersheys}
"For the days mama doesn't have time to make you breakfast" {granola bars}
"To remind you that baby boy needs lots of hugs & kisses" {hersheys}
"For a snack after he wakes you up in the middle of the night!" {trail mix}
I can't wait to give him his father's day gift! I think I am more excited than he is {although he is really excited about having a son!} I will definitely be making more of these baskets to bring to the next baby shower I go to!
Happy Father's Day to all of the dads out there!

This is so cute! There's always lots of these for moms-to-be but I've never seen one for dads. Very sweet!
ReplyDeleteSuzy, I love your blog! So many great ideas, you are so crafty! This is a perfect gift and you will definitely use all these items. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and delivery! We'll have to get our little boys together when things settle down after yours arrives!

ReplyDeleteLove this post, please link it up with me Wednesday on Wow Us Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteI read recently that the use of pacifiers may help reduce the risk of SIDS.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!:) I used that very same green bucket for my son's bathtub for his first 2 1/2 years. We didn't have a tub in our small home where we lived when he was born and the kitchen was too drafty to bathe him in the sink. So in the shower he went with the tub. (We put on a corded shower head so that I could control the water and keep it away from his face.) It worked great. He did slip a few times in it, but always managed to catch himself before I could catch him, so when we finally did get an apartment with a tub, I still used that little bucket for his baths until he was almost 3 years old. Now it's a laundry basket, but we did use it as a toy box for a while as well. Also, just because you plan to use a pacifier does not mean you're a bad mom. I never used one because my son wouldn't take it. The biggest thing is to not let them get too attached to items that eventually you're going to have to take away. When my son was a year and a half I let him have his bottle in bed. Big mistake.:( Once he got to have it in bed with him, it was a battle to get him to go to bed without it. A really good thing I did (not sure what inspired me) was I regularly changed his blankets, so he never got attached to just one of them. He likes to cuddle in them, but there's not one blanket that he just HAS to have with him. I have a nephew who really had a tough time breaking of his lovey-blanket. It was hard on him and hard on my sister as well. I hope this info helps. I hope I haven't over shared, but wanted to help if I could. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to do this for my husband now :) He was deployed when out little one arrived and is having a hard time acclimating to being a "new" Daddy.
ReplyDeleteUsing pacifiers does not make anyone a "bad" mom (and to say it does, is kind of offensive!). If used correctly, pacifiers can be a great comfort to new babies. It is the parents that allow their children to use pacifiers past the age of 2 that give pacifiers a bad rap!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT I CANT WAIT TO MAKE ONE FOR MY HUSBAND. THANKS!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this its to cute cant wait to make one. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm working on this for my son-in-law, a soon-to-be dad. I added a couple sleepers that say "I love my daddy" (one for a girl, one for a boy, because they don't know what they're having). Also found a book for new dad. Then used your ideas. Fun stuff. Can't wait to give it to him this weekend. Thanks for the great ideas
ReplyDeleteLove the bib!! Sis you ir yourselve or did you find it somewhere??
ReplyDeleteHow did you make the bib and the burp cloth?

ReplyDeleteThe peepee teepee is hilarious. One of my friends is expecting twin boys and I will be making these for him!! great must have list!
ReplyDeleteI ended up doing the Hershey Drops instead of the kisses, with a note saying "To remind you not to drop the baby" and then did a 2-pack of Twinkies and had a note that said "Something tiny and sweet, just like you baby!" Thanks for the ideas, they were just what I needed!!!
ReplyDeleteCute idea. I would imagine an older brother or sister might like receiving something similar "brother/sister survival kit".
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, these pregnancy hormones are no joke. I just started crying while reading through this. My husband (also a huge Batman fan) and I are expecting our first little one (it's a boy!) in May. I think this is such a great idea. I've been wanting to do something special for him.
ReplyDeleteLove the bib and burp cloth especially; I am totally going to make my own daddy survival kit (custom to my DH).
