Hey Everyone!
If you're reading this, you must have stuck by me through my long bloggy-vaca... so THANK YOU! And thank you for all of your sweet comments about our newest addition. I truly believe that everyone's prayers helped make this little miracle happen. You are the best ever!
I managed to do like.......1 craft during my first trimester. And of course, it's baby themed. My cousin had a baby in November & since she picked out the gift we got her I thought we should add in something unique. So here is the Hospital Survival Kit I made.
The bucket is from ikea for about $2.99. We live about an hour from ikea, so I buy a handful of them every time I go there. I used my vinyl cutter to add the letters. They are the baby blue color {silhouette brand} but it honestly is so light that it almost looks white, especially when cut out small like this. But it still works!
Here is a list of what was stocked in the kit:
-fuzzy socks {i couldn't find any with grippers, but they would be the best for the hospital}
-a mini spa/lotion kit
-face wipes
-burt's bee's chapstick {i've never given birth, but I hear it makes you have dry lips!}
-a stand-up mirror
-chocolate
-mints
-stretchy headbands
-hand sanitizer {see below}
There are lots of other things you could put in this, but I'd suggest a bigger basket if you do! I had a hard time stuffing it all into this little guy.
I made this hand sanitizer by peeling off the label & adding some vinyls that say "sanitize before snuggles". I figured it was a more polite than saying "You better wash your germy hands before touching my baby!" {Plus, that probably wouldn't have fit on the bottle!}
I can't wait to make another one.... as soon as someone else has a baby!! If you have any other ideas, let me know! Hope you are all doing well! God Bless!

ReplyDeleteCute idea...I've seen many variations on this. I'd add a package of really good gum or mints...you never know how long it will be till you are able to brush your teeth after you give birth. Also, lotion, some good tissues (hospital tissue is yucky!), and snacks for after your birth. Yes, you'd need a bigger bucket or a bag for this, but having given birth, those are the things I'd wished I'd had.
ReplyDeleteThis would be a wonderful gift to get while your in the hospital:) It's such a neat idea!!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. I wish I had this when I had my boys. I am so doing this for my great friend. She is about to have her first baby. Thank you for the idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice idea. Did you know you can use dimensional fabric paint to make doodles on the bottom of socks to make them grip better?
ReplyDeletePuffy paint. Works great.
DeleteFabric paint works great or making grip on the bottom of the socks.
ReplyDeleteI have been doing this for years. I call it a Mommy Bag. When baby comes the Mommy needs to take extreme care of herself. I usually put a soft music CD, lotion, body wash, one of those puffy ball things,stretch mark cream,chocolates, and anything I know they like. I do put hair stuff in if they have longer hair.
ReplyDeleteI put it in a pretty bag. I do like the soap you do and the bucket.
snacks and a fun magizine to read would be great to add
ReplyDeleteWow! This is such a great idea! Mums tend to get forgotten as new baby takes center stage. A girlfriend gave me body butter and a bath robe for my first, everything else was for baby. I so appreciated it. I ended up with an emergency c-section and sure could have done with a pair of extra flannels for when my milk came in. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletelove this idea! I do one and add hemroid pads and panty liners (beacuse these are the things on a list they will give you to bring), baby mittens-so they dont scratch there face, baby lotion, recieving blanket, personal care travel items (toothpaste etc...), tylenol (sometimes they charge you if you dont bring it), and a preemie outfit because they dont always fit in new born....... this is such a cute idea with the bucket! love it :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome.I would have loved something like this when my son was sick in hospital.Of course it would have been different items but, day in day out in Hospital is hard enough without trying to get the things you need.Of course there is the gift shop but, things are so expensive.And with this we each could have had one.And adult(shampoo,cond.,soap(myown),socks,deoderant,book,etc..)And a childs(he was alone the 1st time so anything to help entertain would have been welcome)
ReplyDeleteThis is so adorable! I found this through Pinterest and I'm excited to make one for a co-worker who will be having a baby any day now. Thanks for sharing! I love your blog-it's so cute, I'm your newest follower and I'm excited to get to know you better. Congrats on your pregnancy!

Can I ask what font you used on the pail? So cute!!
ReplyDeleteLoove this! What font did you use for the vinyl on the bucket?
ReplyDeleteYour information on needing chap stick is correct...it does make you have dry lips because of how much more you are breathing...
ReplyDeleteThis is such a GREAT idea! I'll be using this for my best friend who is due in May. One thing I'll add is deodorant for her ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a GREAT idea! I'll be making this for my best friend who is due in May. I'll be adding deodorant to the list of things to get! :)
ReplyDeleteLove it! I always need an extension cord when I am in the hosp. I use it to charge my iPad or cell phone
ReplyDeleteSoooo have to make this for my friend who is having a babygirl!
ReplyDeletethis is awesome! im gonna do this as soon as possible, my sister in law is having a baby next month!
ReplyDeletenever thought of packing sanitizer for hospital. Adding that to my list now
ReplyDeletewhere did you get the "sanitize before snuggles?"
ReplyDeletelove it- just add an extension cord- never an outlet close enough to charge mommy and daddy's phones! --a must have that I wish I had! And a HUGE cup with lid/straw- I was DYING of thirst after labor and sucked down sooooo much : )
ReplyDeletelove it! :) especially the cute sanitizer! ADD - A SLEEP MASK! (I finally figured it out & brought one for my fourth) LIFESAVER only way I could get a nap in the bright lights of the day! I could have brought ear plugs so my hubby could watch TV while I slept :) he he.
ReplyDeleteLove this. Found you on Pintrest when looking for new mom kit ideas. Bath and Body works has super cushy socks with grips, stock up when they go on clearance. I'm also adding soft TP, a must after giving birth. I'm also going to customize water bottles, add her favorite candy and snacks, plus some items for the new dad.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas! I would even add a family friendly DVD movie that the new mom and dad can watch while enjoying the quiet, or while she feeds baby. Something fun! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas, and good ideas in the comments too. I've had 6 babies and would add a mini fan--hot flashes are common during labor transition. And a blow up bath pillow (dollar tree sometimes has these) if the hospital has a whirl pool tub. I also take the cute printed Depends panties (TMI?) because I can wear them after delivery with the pads in and still use my super cute nightgowns without fear that they will be stained.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I would add NIPPLE BUTTER (if you know new mom plans to breast feed)...I had to send my hubby out to get me some from Target. I think someone mentioned it, but a WATER BOTTLE is a must...so easy to get dehydrated during and after labor.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I would add: NIPPLE BUTTER (if you know the new mom plans to breast feed), and a WATER BOTTLE (so easy to get dehydrated during and after labor!).
ReplyDeleteAnyone think that this is good for the dads? Include stuff for dad to bring to hospital...snacks, energy drinks, magazines, hand sani, wipes...anything else he likes so he doesn't feel left out...
ReplyDeleteI absolutly adore this. I've been looking around for DIY ideas for baby. My sister is pregnant with her first baby, so i wanted to do a couple special things both for her and baby!
ReplyDeletei would add a blanket and roll it up and put it in there as well since its always so cold in hospitals
ReplyDeleteim doing this for my friend! but i might add a travle size blanket in it and roll it up since its always cold in hospitals!
ReplyDeletegood cotton undies, Always ultra thin overnight pads with wings, and nipple cream :-)
