Want to see the newest addition to my eating area??
It's the easiest craft on the planet, but I still love it!
I got the idea from this post by Char over at Crap I've Made. Hers was red, but remember, I'm afraid of color... so I went for a little bit more neutral.
{you'll have to check out her tutorial because she did a few things differently than i did}
So first I pulled a fork, spoon & knife right out of our drawer! No, I didn't use our "real" set of silverware. But this last year we hosted Christmas for my entire family. We didn't have enough silverware, so I went to walmart and bought a pack of 4 for $1. I could definitely afford to spare a set! Here they are with a coat of spray primer.
My intention was to spray them green {like the frame that I forgot to take a picture of.. but it was the same $1 tree frame that I used for my front door frame here}. But then once I got the primer on, I realized I really liked the white so I gave it a couple more coats of primer and it was perfect.
Then lily wanted to join in and wouldn't get her nose out of my camera. Look at those sad eyes.
While those were drying, I tried to find fabric to put as the background {like char did} but I didn't find any I liked, so I took a piece of dark brown scrapbook paper and crumpled it into a ball.
Next, I smoothed it out and glued it to the frame backing.
I just used a nice & thick glob of hot glue to glue these right on to the paper.
And here it is! I think it'd be really cute if you made 3 and put 1 utensil in each. I might have to get to the dollar tree & pick up a couple more frames to try it!
Here it is up on the wall {in between the pantry & our sliding glass door}
Here's a view of the little corner. {can you see the tiny sneak peak of our new patio in the corner??}
Here's a close up. It's still a work in progress, so I won't show you everything! But we got the steps built today & we are LOVING it.
Ok so I need YOUR help. I got this {i really don't know what to call it} "buffet" today for five dollars. It's all sanded, cleaned & ready to be painted white & used as a buffet. BUT I want to put a fun color on the inside. Any suggestions? I'm thinking mustard yellow or possibly a green or blue. But I don't want it to totally clash with my neutral house.
Here are some inspiration pictures I found on pinterest
{do you have a pinterest? you can follow me here}
I'm leaning towards this yellow, but I also like the blue color of the wall.

I love this green & it would match the room the best... but will I get sick of it soon?

eee so cute!! I had a similar idea for my kitchen on my to-do list!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the idea of insides of the cabinets painted! I'd pick an accent color you are in love with...and then bring small accessories into the neutral spaces you already have (that I love!!)
Suzy you are soo funny, afraid of color you say? That must be just within your home... seems to me like you are getting all of your rainbow color love out in your blog, love your paisleys, embrace colors in the home. The project turned out beautifully :-)

I would paint the "buffet" the green color of the last pic you posted. That's not a color I would get sick of. Now that yellow...not so much!
