Hi Everyone!
Hope you are having a GREAT 4th of July weekend!! I have been trying to get things organized today so that I can have a work-free day tomorrow! But I wanted to quickly show you a chair I redid this week! I'm so in love with it!
It might be a little premature because I have literally no yellow in my house. But we are in the "planning" stages of redoing our spare bedroom and it is going to be gray, black, white & yellow. I've always loved yellow so I'm so excited to be able to incorporate it. It's a slow process, because if you remember, my house is entirely in neutrals. I am definitely working on being more of a bold decorator. Anyway, here's the "before" of a chair I found for $6 at a garage sale! I was so in love, I had to buy it...despite how dirty & gross it was.
If you're a coca-cola decorator, I'm sorry... but this just had to go.
First, I took out the disgusting screws at the bottom, cut myself in the process, and made sure I was up-to-date on my tetanus. Then I remembered... I'm a nurse and am up-to-date on everything under the sun, so back to the project.
It took me about 45 minutes to scrub this baby... seriously, who keeps a chair that dirty and sticky? My dog wasn't even bothering to sniff it, so you know it's bad.
Once I ripped out about 9,000 staples, I was left with this. I cut a piece of this black & white upholstery fabric to fit around it. The fabric is from Joann and I got it when ours relocated, so 90% off plus 33% off.... yep, it was under $1/yard. I think I got about 5 yards so I'll be using more of it in the new spare.
I pulled the fabric tight & put one staple in each side. Then I went around, folding about every 1 1/2 inches, until I was all the way around.
Now for the spray painting job. My husband kept the box that our TV came in for me to spray paint in... how kind of him :) First I put a light coat of primer over it. Then I used about an entire can of Rustoleum's Sun Yellow. But most of it was used painting the box because it's really hard to get all those little nooks & cranny's in rot-iron furniture! Talk about a pain in the you-know-what.
{whoops. apparently i missed the step of taking a picture! just imagine a giant cloud of yellow spray paint filling the entire garage! yep, that's all it was.}
And finished! I love it! Serious motivation to start the spare!
This picture is the most accurate of the yellow color.
And because I just love a good before & after!
Hope you enjoy! I can't wait to show it to you in our new room! I really need to get on that! Anyone have any good pictures of gray rooms with white board & batten? Once we finally pick our gray paint color, it's on!

ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE! What a great find and FABULOUS makeover!! I am now officially on the lookout for a fun metal chair!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Happy colors! For me, I use a color like bright yellow as an accent color. I can see the guest bed with fluffy white linens and a comforter rolled up at the foot of the bed in white too...then while you're out on your next garage sale, an old oak headboard will be waiting for u, that you can paint in the same enamel yellow. Pictures in black and white of family and friends, framed in black frames on the wall would be great too. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteLooks great Suzy!! I love love love yellow, and would be in heaven if I could do a room with yellow, but that is the one color that my husband despises (frown) so I'll live vicariously through you! lol! Thanks so much for linking up to Try it Tuesday at DotDotdot!! I hope to see you later tonight to link up some more proects!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Tuesday!
