Top 10 in 2010

Like the rest of bloggieland, I've decided to show you my top 10 posts in 2010... even though it's really only from Oct-Dec since my blog is still pretty new! Don't be scared if the first few are lame....... I went backwards, so they get better as you go on! :-)

{click on the links to go straight to the tutorial!}
#10: A walmart clock that I redid to match the bathroom! Terrible lighting in the photos, but I love the clock! {and it's still working!}
Photobucket
#9: This wreath tutorial was only one of my many handmade Christmas decorations! I think that I'll make another one for easter using easter colors and hang it on the front door!
Photobucket
#8: I know I just posted this tutorial, but I love it so much. So it's making the list. It's still 2010.

#7: This soap dispenser was the result of me trying to find a way to replace the foam pumps from bath & body works that have been rocket-launching soap across my tiny little bathroom. not cool.
Photobucket
#6: This chalkboard menu hanging from my pantry used to be an ugly old picture frame. Click HERE for the easiest tutorial in the world.
 Photobucket
#5: My number five is a stepstool I redid to match my kitchen. I probably love it more than it deserves to be loved. But the 5 foot 4 inch me hadn't put anything in any of my top shelves in the kitchen because I couldn't reach them. So I was thrilled to make over this goodwill find.

#4: This dishwasher magnet that I made from an old CD was one of my first posts! It was super exciting because I've seen SO many people make their own version of this and I love them all.
But can I tell you a little secret? My dog has become a great jumper and somehow she managed to get this off of the dishwasher and chew it to pieces.
 {good thing she's so darn cute}

#3: Cabinet Door Photo Frame. This just might be my personal fave! I found this cabinet door at the Restore for $1 and made it into this piece of art! I loooooooove it.
 {and so does the man, which is super exciting. he "looooooves" one of my crafts.} :)
#2: These SUPER EASY poppy headbands made from felt..... about 25 cents to make!
#1: The number one at Joy is at Home are these DIY Coasters made from Terra Cotta Pot Holders I plan to make more soon and I'm thinking painted white!:

Can't wait for my super lazy day tomorrow of reading everyone elses top ten linkups! Happy New Year everyone!! Enjoy your families and friends, parties and snuggles, food and games and see you in 2011.

Satin Flower Headband

 I know..... ANOTHER headband tutorial! But a girl can never have enough headbands. And this one is perfect for new years eve.
 {you know it's a requirement to ring in the new years with amazing accessories... right?}
Photobucket
supplies:
-satin fabric {not very much of it. 1/2 yd. would make about 20 headbands!}
-scissors
-hot glue gun
-lighter or candle
-headband or clip to attach flower to
-needle and thread
-an embellishment for the center of your flower

Ready? Let's get started!
Photobucket
1. First, cut your fabric into varying sizes of circles. I used 8 for my flower. The biggest was 1 1/2 inches in diameter and the smallest was 1/2 inch. Don't worry about making them perfect circles.
Photobucket
2. Next, take a lighter and lightly singe the edges, just enough to make them melt and curl a bit. Make sure the shiny side is facing the lighter when you do this or they will curl backwards.

3. Stack your petals from largest to smallest
Photobucket
4. Next, take your needle and thread and stich a cross through the center, tying in the back.
5. Hot glue your embellishment to the center of the flower. {not pictured} I took a string of pearls from Joann and cut one for my embellishment.

6. Hot glue the back of the flower to your headband {or clip}. Cut another piece of fabric and glue it to the back to smooth it out.

And done! You can wear it as a normal headband.
Or rock the bohemian style... my personal fave for playing dress up in the bathroom mirror.
{the verdict is still out on whether or not this look is acceptable for the public eye}

Sparkly New Years Nails

I saw these fun nails at the Daybook {wish i was stylish like her!} and knew they were perf for New Years! However, being that I'm a nurse and can only wear nailpolish sat&sun, I don't ever buy or wear it! So,  I decided to improvise with what I had and ended up taking Martha Stewart glitter to a whole new level.
Photobucket
{yes, I use the cheap stuff. remember? it only needs to last me 2 days}
Photobucket
It's super simple:
1. apply nail polish {the darker the better- mine is NYC plaza plumberry}
2. sprinkle martha stewart fab glitter
3. cover with a clear coat to seal
4. take pictures of your new fab nails in the bathroom mirror
5. throw yourself a new years party {not optional}

{apologies}

I promise I did not fall off the face of the earth... I did, however, have a very busy Christmas! I also hosted our family Christmas for the first time, fitting 18 people in our little house for dinner. And many more after that for games and supper.

It was great, but I will be back to blogging this week! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!!

Sparkly Christmas Frames

Happy Blizzard Everyone! This weekend we enjoyed 21 inches of snow.. {not}. It was so bad even the metrodome roof caved in! You'd think I would have gotten caught up on blogging, but instead we did some house projects, hung some pictures and shelves, and watched lots of netflix! :-) But I did get a chance to do a couple of small craft projects!
Photobucket
I made these frames for my little hutch in the sitting room. We don't have a mantel {sigh} but we do have this pretty little piece of furniture that does nothing but wait for holiday decorations.

First, I started out with some $1 frames from Michaels. I spray painted them with a really quick coat of white. It didn't cover it all but you can't tell once it's done.
Photobucket
After they were dry, I traced them onto scrapbook paper for the cover and cut them out, using an xacto knife for the middle.
Photobucket
I mod podged the paper onto the frames. After scraping out all of the bubbles and letting it dry, I put a coat of mod podge on top. I mixed some Martha Stewart glitter into the mod podge to give it some more shimmer.
Photobucket
I printed out the words "Peace" and "Joy" using Pea Hart font (I get all my cool fonts at kevinandamanda.com!).
Photobucket
I lined up the printout on TOP of scrapbook paper to use for the backing in the frame. I then put both of them on top of a piece of cardboard so the markings would sink in more.
Photobucket
Then I traced over the edges of the letters, pressing really hard so I could see the lines on the scrapbook paper. I then carefully applied glue inside the lines using an Elmers glue scrapbook pen. Then I poured some more Martha Stewart glitter over the top {love that stuff}.
Photobucket

Photobucket
I put them back in the frames, added some embellishments & ribbon.. and done!

I hope you are all keeping warm & driving safe!!
