Fall Door Decor

I love fall! I have been waiting for it for so long! It's our first year in our house so I'm just starting to collect seasonal decorations. I've been seeing all these gorgeous fall wreaths around here and wanted to make one.. but when it came to it I could never commit! Last weekend my mom and I went to a few garage sales and I found this basket for 50 cents that was in PERFECT condition! I thought it would be perfect for the front door decor.
I put some foam in the bottom and some varied fall leaves and flowers from the dollar tree. I thought it would be cute to add an orange ribbon around the front, but I couldn't get it to stay and I wasn't ready to ruin the basket by adding hot glue :)
My fiance wouldn't dream of letting me pound anything into our front door and I didn't have an over the door hook so I just strung a piece of ribbon through it and brought it over the top of the door. I thought I could just staple it into the top of the door but when the man came home from work he kindly told me that our door is steel.... duh.  So I used a few layers of packaging tape and will fix it later! :) Here's the final product:
(yes I know it's off centered in the darker pictures. I fixed it, but I liked the lighting in those better so now you have both :)

I love my new fall decor! And all for 3.50 (3 bunches of $1 store fall florals and 50 cents for the garage sale basket, already had the ribbon) And FYI- after a week of windy weather, nothing has moved at all! (I was surprised)

The man had a great idea of making another one for the inside and looping the ribbon through both and fastening it to the top of the door. That way they would balance each other out and you could decorate the inside of the house too! It wasn't a half bad idea! I didn't do it because I only had 1 basket but maybe next year! Happy Fall!!!

  3. That arrangement is lovely! You can't beat the price on that basket--and if you get tired of it, you can always spray paint it. I have a steel door too, and it bugs me that I can't get anything to stay. I've been using a clear over the door hanger thingie. Did you have to use special packing tape??

  6. Love the basket! Aren't garage sales the best?! I never thought of using a ribbon to hang something from the door; very smart! I may have to give that a try!

  7. Your door arrangement is lovely -the ribbon really adds charm to the basket --but did you know the dollar tree sells the wreath hooks that go over the door -just in case you want one for winter. :-)

  8. I love your basket! Nice job putting it all together. We have a steel door too and I've used the 3M hooks and also little suction cup hooks to hang things from the door. They both work well depending on how much the wreath or basket weighs.
